Honda City remains one of the most popular mid-size
sedans in India in terms of class and comfort.
Honda Cars has unveiled the fifth-generation
City in different parts of the world and has confirmed that the sedan will be
launched in July 2020 in India which is when the prices of the sedan will be
announced to see how far it can compete with its rivals.
However, its sales have been dipping over the past
months pre-lockdown due to stiff competition from its rivals like Maruti Suzuki
Ciaz, Hyundai Verna, Volkswagen Vento, and Skoda Rapid. However, that being said,
in its all-new avatar, the fifth-generation City might be the next game-changer
for Honda if it wants to cash in on Indian demand.
Honda mentions that this new City is set to be
the longest and widest sedan in its segment. Talking of dimensions, the new-gen
Honda City measures 4,549mm in length, 1,748mm in width, 1,489mm
in height and has a wheelbase of 2,600mm.
Also, it is
India's first connected car with Amazon’s Alexa remote capability and comes
with many segment-first features to establish itself.

2020 City is
inspired by the Japanese Katana blade, a type of curved sword used by ancient
samurai as stated by Honda to preserve its ethnic identity.
The updated
design makes the hood appear longer with a well-defined character line running
from the headlights to the tail of the sedan.
It gets an
all-LED headlamp with 9 LED array inline shell, integrated LED DRL and L-shaped
LED turn signal and Z-shaped 3D wrap-around LED tail lamps.
The suspension
setup has been tinkered with reduced friction for better handling and stoicism.
Also, the torsional rigidity has been improved
significantly for better driving dynamics at higher speeds.
Engine specs
The fifth-generation City is delivered with a
1.0-litre, DOHC, 3-cylinder, 12-valve, PGM-Fi, turbo engine that delivers 122
PS and 173 Nm of torque.
Also, the exterior has been refurbished on the lines
of the new Honda Civic. The cabin is plusher with premium features to suit the
affluent needs.
However, it remains to be seen how much can it
challenge its rivals in this cut-throat segment. But on the brighter side, this may very well
be Honda’s masterstroke.
