After earning fame as a high performing sedan in the global market Corolla is ready to rule the SUV segment by the name of brand new Toyota Corolla Cross.

The new crossover of Toyota is ready for sale in ASEAN and  European countries before being available in other markets. This compact SUV is supposed to take over the likes of Seltos, Creta and MG Hector when it comes to India. Corolla Cross is the crossover of much familiar sedan Corolla, which is quite famous around the globe.

Why Toyota used Corolla?

Toyota is trying to cash-in the popularity of the Corolla sedan by introducing this crossover. This will probably help Toyota's dipping fate in the SUV segment as currently, it is unable to withstand competition from Seltos and Creta. Dragging the name and fame of a sedan in the SUV segment clearly states the poor condition of the company and that Toyota is losing its grip on the market.

What's the car all about?

Looks

Corolla Cross is 4460 mm long, 1825 mm wide and 1620 mm tall. It's bigger than C-HR but smaller than RAV4. The crossover is more budgeted than luxurious C-HR.
It looks similar to RAV4 but is accompanied by a pronounced black grille, sharp headlights and daytime running lights which is further enhanced by black bumpers, side skirts and wheel arches added rugged appeal.

Interior and features

The interior is very much similar to recently released Suzuki ACross SUV but has surely got the basic Toyota features and comfort. Besides the monotone theme, the interior is loaded with a large touchscreen infotainment system.

Safety features include 7 airbags, ABS with EBD, a 360-degree camera and blind-spot monitor.

Engine

It comes with two engine versions. The 1.8-litre ZR-FBE petrol engine generates 140 hp and 175 Nm of torque. It comes along with CVT gearbox.
The other one is a petrol-electric hybrid. The 98hp/145 Nm, 1.8-litre petrol engine is paired with 72 hp/163 Nm electric motor. This hybrid engine gives out an overall power of 122 hp. It is attached to Toyota's e-CVT gearbox.

Is it coming to India?

Despite being launched in ASEAN and  European countries, there is still no news about its launch in the Indian market. Meanwhile, Toyota is working on the Urban Cross SUV which will be head-to-head with Vitara Brezza.
